This week has been Child Safety Week across the UK. According to ROPSA “children under the age of five years are more at risk from an accident in the home than anywhere else. Many of these accidents are preventable.” However, life rarely runs to plan and a moment’s distraction can provide the perfect opportunity for a child to do exactly what you don’t want; it is then that you may need to administer first aid.
Chris Ivey, Consultant Director for Health and Safety at THSP Risk Management, has a daughter currently attending an after school “babysitting” training course and he was very happy to note that this included a paediatric first aid element, because treating a child and an adult require different skills.
THSP offers a Paediatric First Aid course (Level 3), available to all who have child welfare at the heart of their working lives. This course is ideal for everyone who regularly works with infants and children across a wide variety of industries, such as teaching and nurseries and is looking at gaining a nationally accredited Level 3 award.
The course includes a wide range of learning objectives to ensure full knowledge of scenarios to help build up the skills to deal with first aid situations likely to arise. All delegates will learn:
- Your responsibilities and reporting
- Assessment of the situation
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Head injuries
- Infantile convulsions
- Foreign bodies
- Control of bleeding
- Eye injuries
- Heat and Cold
- Sickle cell anaemia
The course is delivered over two days, covering and satisfying the criteria set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. To pass the course and gain the full Level 3 qualification, all delegates must attend two full days of study and complete two units of accreditation. There is an assessment consisting of both a theory and practical test. Once the course is completed, delegates will receive a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid certificate which is valid for 3 years.
THSP offers this course at venues across the UK for individuals to attend, starting at £126 + VAT per person. We are also available to deliver this training at your own working premises for groups of up to 12 people from £1,200 + VAT plus £15 + VAT per person to cover certification and publication fees.
